LCB NFL Picks: Week Ten

November 14, 2009

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers @ 1:00 on CBS:
Langston: Russ stated that if the Bengals win Sunday that they would have swept both the Ravens and Steelers, it would be quite the feat and put them in the driver seat in the AFC North. He didn't mention that they haven't swept the season series from the Steelers since 1998. Showing me that it's unlikely to happen, and it hurts the Bengals chances that Troy Polamalu is healthy or at least playing (he didn't play in week 3). I'll go with the Steelers, afterall history is on my side. And I am still not sold on the Bengals as more than wild-card round losers. Pittsburgh 17, Cincinatti 10.

Drody: Looking at the slate of games we have to pick from this week, it looks like a good one. This first match up hits home for me. It's a big sports weekend in Pittsburgh, so I expect the Steelers getting a big victory. Big, not as in the destroy the Bengals, but big, because I do believe they will get the victory, and resume their place at the top of the division. A big game will be had by Rashard Mendelhall, and the Steelers win. Steelers 24, Bengals 10

Philadelphia Eagles vs. San Diego Chargers @ 4:15 on Fox:
Langston: Is there a douchier franchise in all of professional sports, than the San Diego Chargers? I'm not saying that because I am Raider fan. I'm saying it, because I believe it to be true.
  • They were named after a credit card company.
  • Norv Turner is their coach
  • Philip Rivers talks trash to everyone, including fans.
    • Can you imagine if Tom Brady or Peyton Manning did this? The fall-out would be covered constantly. But since it's Rivers, it's expected. When you expect a supposed role-model to act like such a poor sport, I believe that would be the definition of douchey.
  • Shawne Merriman, has a useless "e" attached to the end of his name, beats women, has a sack dance that he does regardless of the score, and does steroids.
Those are obviously the worst of the bunch, but you get the idea. San Diego 35, Philly 38.

Drody: I agree completely with what Langston says. The Chargers are awful, I can't stand that team, I hope they lose all their games. I hope the Eagles win this one, but I don't think they will. The Chargers will probably win this one handily, just because they are the home team. Chargers 35, Eagles 24

New England Patriots vs. Indianapolis Colts @ 8:20 on NBC SNF:
Langston: If you have been watching any sort of sports programming, there is no chance you didn't know all the essentials for this game; You already know the records of the two teams, the time of the game, the channel, the history, the protagonists/antagonists, etc. You would be led to believe that this will be the biggest game since football was invented. But is the hype necessary? Who are these fans that need a reminder to watch this game? Seriously, I want to know. Indy 31, Pats 28.

Drody: Another great game for the average fan. I think the Colts keep rolling with a win here. But this brings up another question, how close is Peyton Manning to being the greatest quarterback of all time? I mean seriously, the guy has a super bowl win, and the whole reason this team hasn't missed a step with a new coach is because Peyton is still there. I know Brady has more Super Bowl wins, and yes, he does have a great career, so maybe both of them are the greatest. But I would take Peyton over Brady, and that's just me. Colts 35, Patiots 28

Baltimore Ravens vs. Cleveland Browns @ 8:30 on ESPN MNF:
Langston: When the schedulers decided this would be the Monday night game, what were they thinking? There was no reason to believe that this would be a good match-up this late in the season. Did they have a contractual obligation to have the Browns in prime-time? Did they just want to stick the knife deeper into the fans of Cleveland? One of (if not) the most tortured fanbases in the country. The Indians have traded every valuable franchise piece they have in the past two seasons, save for Grady Sizemore. The Browns are arguablly the worst team in football. Ohio State isn't even going to lose a BCS game at this point. And the only good thing going for them is Lebron, and they are constantly reminded of him probably bolting after this season. So what's another blow-out on a national stage really mean for this fanbase? Baltimore 35, Cleveland 14.

Drody: Cleveland is awful, I can't believe they are gonna be on Monday night. This is just terrible game. They can't beat anyone, this doesn't make any sense. Maybe Mangini will go crazy or something, at least to make it interesting. Or that Harbaugh fights Mangini during halftime. I don't know something crazy needs to happen for this game to be watchable. Maybe Ray Lewis will bite off someone's ear, Tyson style. Anyway, the Ravens win easily. Ravens 42, Browns 0

Your doubting of the Bengals is making us look like a bunch of amateurs

Well aren't we? Also I didn't see the Ravens game last week, and I should have listened to you closer about how good their defense was. After watching today, I have no reason to doubt them. At least against teams other than the ones that call Indy, New England, Minnesota or New Orleans home.

of course, you did get the Indy game right, which by the way was a game that has me completely perplexed. I came away thinking New England is the better team, but Indy somehow won that game and now seems destined to wrap up home field. The Steelers lost to the Bengals. I don't trust the Chargers. Who wins the AFC besides Indy, who may or may not be as good as their record?
