Well thats what the Dodgers hope, Clayton Kershaw, the number one ranked prospect of the Dodgers fantastic minor league system has been called up. It is said that even without being a right handed pitcher, he is still the number one pitching prospect in all of baseball. His best pitch is his killer curve ball(which in that video, he uses it to cripple Sean Casey). After being called up from AAA Las Vegas last week to replace Esteban Loaiza, he made his debut on Sunday against the Cardinals.Clayton Kershaw held the Cardinals to two runs while striking out seven in six innings of work. He walked one and gave up five hits. Kershaw didn't factor into the decision, but he looked excellent while hitting 96 mph with his fastball and throwing his usually devastating curveball in the low-70s. The Cardinals probably should have been a little more patient (he threw 32 pitches in the first and 69 over the next five innings), but it was still a very nice outing from Kershaw. Ever since he was drafted by the Dodgers (in 2006 first round 6th pick), his legend has continued to grow (even having terrible songs dedicated to him). For the fantasy players, he will give you quality innings and strikeouts. Yet the Dodgers have put a limit on him of 25 innings a month, so he is ready for the stretch run. Kershaw is 20 years and 67 days old. The only pitchers since the turn of the century to make a major league debut at a younger age, Felix Hernandez of the Mariners, at 19, and Edwin Jackson of the Dodgers, who beat Randy Johnson on his 20th birthday. If he gets roughed up, there is a contingency plan in effect, he will get about 3 starts and Jason Schmidt should be ready. The Dodgers can say he was just filling a void or holding down Schmidts spot and his butterflies will be gone along with the hype, and if he plays as good as there hoping, they will look like geniuses. These next couple months will be telling if he can live up to the hype or become just another ball player.
