The wheels are starting to fall off. Dropping 2 of 3 to New York and getting blown out by the Braves while in the midst of a team wide hitting slump does not bode well for the future. The Mets are HOT right now. The Marlins aren't going anywhere. The atmosphere in the clubhouse seems stagnant and the pressure is mounting. This team needs a shot in the arm to boost morale and lighten things up a bit.
So Pat, I implore you to give the Rockies whatever they want for Matt Holliday and Brian Fuentes. Sell the farm, hold a garage sale, maybe even a car wash. Just find a way to bring this deal back to life. We all like Shane Victorino and we'd hate to see him go but trading the Flyin' Hawaiian and a few prospects for these two guys seems like a deal to me. Adding Holliday's bat to this lineup could create the type of spark and excitement in the clubhouse that this team needs right now. Did I mention he's hitting .345? That's a pretty big improvement over Utley's team leading .286. Think of this lineup 1. Rollins 2. Werth 3. Utley 4. Holliday 5. Howard 6. Burrell 7. Feliz 8. Ruiz That's enough to make visiting pitchers very nervous as they step onto the mound at Citizen's Bank Park. Plus, if Pat Burrell doesn't resign after this season we'd at least have Holliday's bat through next year.So what that Brian Fuentes is a free agent after this season? Rent him. He could only serve to bolster an already solid bullpen as a setup guy for Brad Lidge. This team has a legitimate chance to win now, they just need that little something extra. Give Colorado all the prospects they want and take the proven talent that will win games now.
