Phils 2 Dodgers 0

October 10, 2008

First of all I want to offer my condolences to Charlie Manuel and his family, for the loss of his mother. Secondly let me say that tonights game was tough to stomach. Former Dodger minor leaguer Shane Victorino came up huge for the Phils, three times. In the second he hit a single that scored Myers and Rollins. Then in the third he hit a triple that scored Myers and Ruiz. In the seventh with the score 8-5, he made a soul crushing catch in deep center to end the inning. If not caught, it would have easily been a double and quite possibly a triple. Basically the flyin' Hawaiian and Brett Myers were Dodger killers tonight. Seriously 3-3 and 3 RBI for BRETT MYERS. Yeah he is the same guy who had a total of 4 hits, all season.

However I am an optimist and there were a few bright spots for the Dodgers. Unsurprisingly Manny was one of them. Hitting a three run home run that barely cleared the wall in left. That home run gave the Dodgers a chance to come back, but no luck. The Dodgers kept Ryan Howard hitless for the second straight game and Jimmy Rollins got the golden sombrero, striking out four times. Luckily for the Phils everyone else was hitting and we all know its just a matter of time before Howard starts hitting jacks again, hopefully for the Dodgers' sake that won't be until next spring. Clayton Kershaw pitched an inning and two thirds, and only allowed one base runner via base on balls. James McDonald came in the game when they needed someone to stop the hemorrhaging. He did just that, pitching three and a third innings, striking out five, no runs, a walk, and two hits. He is the only reason I didn't feel absolutely terrible for Sandy Koufax having to sit through the beat down. I honestly think a star may have been born tonight in the 6'5 pitcher from Long Beach, Ca.
The Phillies take the 2-0 lead to Los Angeles, where the series will start back up on Sunday with the game starting at 8.
