Playoff Musings

May 28, 2009

I was going to get on here and rave about the play of the Lakers in game 5 by mentioning how they might have won the series by forcing the Nuggets to turn the ball over again and again en route to a win that put them ahead in the series three games to two. However the Nuggets are a great team at home period and the Lakers haven't been able to hold up the intensity from game to game. Much like my golf game, the Lakers and Hekyll and Jekyll, you never know what team is going to show up. The one that looks like masters of the triangle or the one that looks like they were put together by picking out random guys in the parking lot. So I figured I would put my focus on the sights of game five, by making some pop art of the team that wears forum blue and championship gold.

The first one is a photo from this dunk, the dunk that is likely to be Lamar Odom's poster next year. It might not have been the best or even the second best dunk for the Lakers, but it was the one that proved the Lakers were not going to back down. At least not that night. I think it showed that since the Birdman had gotten the better of him, twice, and Odom came back to posterize Denver's hype man.The next is from a photo of Kobe talking to ESPN after the game, a game that may have changed how he is viewed for the rest of his career. I believe it finally proved that he could rely on his passing rather than his scoring ability to lead his team to victory. If this was last year he would have looked for his own shot. However last night he ended up with eight assists (he only took thirteen shots) by drawing the double-team, which allowed the rest of the team to play 4-on-3 for the majority of the game. It's games like this, that made the Lakers huge favorites to win the West and contenders for the title. I just hope last night was not an aberration, and instead more of a standard of what to expect from Black Mamba and the Lakers for the rest of these playoffs.
