The Braves continued their offensive success from the Mets series against the Giants, winning the first three games of the series by a total of 23 runs to 6. More and more, this team sheds the skin of the singles hitting team they were prior to the All-Star Break.
The Braves hit six home runs in the four games. Garret Anderson, Chipper Jones, and Ryan Church all homered in the first game. Brian McCann homered in the second game, and Yunel Escobar, the King Jellyfish, homered in each of the last two games. McCann and Escobar each had at least one RBI in 3 of the 4 games, and Chipper had RBI's in 2 of the 4 games. This production occurred against a Giants pitching staff that leads the NL in ERA.
Braves fans, we may be witnessing what once was an acoustic act plugging their guitars into their amps, to become a power trio. Rock 'n Roll and the 2009 baseball season may never be the same. Of course, I could be making this prediction on Blind Faith alone, and this power surge may not last very long. Lightning is just a flash after all, and storms can come and go all in one night:
Its getting near dawn,
When lights close their tired eyes.
I'll soon be wit you, my love,
To give you my dawn surprise.
I'll be with you when the stars start falling.
I've been waiting so long
To be where I'm going
In the sunshine of you love.
I'm with you, my love,
The lights shining through on you.
Yes, I'm with you, my love,
It's the morning and just we two.
I'll stay with you darling now,
I'll stay with you till my seas are dried up.
The jellyfish, too, will be here as long as the seas are. At this point in the season, the elements of water and light are bound to one another in the most turbulent of marriages--the storm, complete with water, lightning, and thunder.
