In Theaters Now: Waiting For Gasol

May 8, 2011

After beating the Hornets in the first round, Phil Jackson announced he would be leaving the team early to start his new career. That new career, acting. But for those of you thinking he's leaving some unfinished business on the court, don't worry, because the whole team has helped him in his new venture on stage. The first gig is a re-imagined version of Samuel Beckett's play "Waiting on Godot," the plot line follows:

"Two men, Phil and Jack, wait endlessly and in vain for someone named Gasol to arrive."

The show opened in Los Angeles and Dallas to middling reviews. According to sources, two of the first three nights were stunning with last minute plot twists that could make you cry or hurl. And for some, both. The other night, a bore. Absolutely no emotion out of the actors, as if the actors didn't even want to be there. Now, there are four more nights scheduled, but according to rumors it might not last through today's show, which will be available on telecast by ABC at 3:30.

Not sure what Bynum was thinking, actually I know he wasn't.

Not sure why Odom got ejected as it looked like Dirk did some fine acting of his own, but it probably was the refs just trying to keep the game under control.

Don't know what to make of the team taking the night off, again, for the second time in four games.

Not sure how different this team will be under Brian Shaw, or if Bynum will even be there to make it his team or if he even deserves it.

All I know is, it was a terrible ending to a fantastic run. Seven trips to the Finals and five championships in twelve years, ending with one of the most embarrassing losses in Laker history, both by the score and the lack of sportsmanship.

I'm sorry it had to end this way, but thanks for everything Phil.

The only way they compete in the coming years is if they can get Howard. Do they try and get him in a trade or wait until free agency? How this crazy idea:

Bynum and Kobe for Howard.

I would do it if your Kupchak and Buss.

A lot of people are high on Bynum, personally, I'm not. He's good, but he'll never be the best player on a championship team good. If he was, then today would not have happened. I'm also not a huge believer in Howard; I don't think he works in LA without Kobe, so it will be interesting to see what LA does. They've already shown in the past that they are willing to part with faces of the franchise.

I think Howard was much improved offensively this year from what I watched. However the team around him fell off dramatically this year. He isn't staying in Orlando unless they win 60 games and the title next year, so I think Orlando will be forced to trade him for 60 cents on the dollar in a repeat of the Carmelo situation. I agree about Bynum plus you have to wonder about health.

But with the lockout who knows what happens. I'd be fine with never hearing that word again.
