In the Name of Preserving Journalistic Integrity!!!

September 20, 2014

Jay Berwanger does exist!
I've been an admirer of the writing done at The Classical for a while now, and two of my favorite pieces of sports writing (of late) have appeared on their site: Ross Green's "Gael Monfils is Gael Monfils" and Jonny Auping's "Awareness, #Awareness, and Ray Rice". In the past, I've sent their editors some rather garbled ideas (like some nonsense about Tony Gonzalez playing the tight end position like Hunter S. Thompson), but this week something finally worked out: "Todd Gurley, Kareem Hunt, Running Towards, and Running Away".

That being said, there's a paragraph towards the end of the article where I comment on the Downtown Athletic Club's first Heisman winner: Jay Berwanger. And, in the paragraph, I mention there's no available footage of Berwanger's career. I was wrong. There is actually quite a bit of black and white silent footage of Berwanger, only it's very difficult to pick him out from the rest of the grainy players on the field. I assume he's the one with the ball. Anyway, I felt it was worthwhile to preserve whatever amount of journalistic integrity I have by acknowledging my mistake and by posting this YouTube! smoking gun here:
