Georgia's Blackout Massacre

September 28, 2008

The score at halftime was 31-0 Alabama. I think that tells the story; there was was a body and there were people to mourn its passing.

We dressed in black, thinking it would intimidate. Instead, we wound up wearing black at a funeral, and the body in the casket was our national championship hopes. It doesn't matter that we outscored 'Bama 30-10 in the second half, that was just the doctor yelling "clear" before attempting to shock the heart of our season back to life. The heart flinched once or twice and then quit responding.

On the flipside, USC lost, Florida lost, LSU and 'Bama have to play one another, and Georgia still has games against Tennessee, #21 Vandy, #5 LSU, #4 Florida, and #15 Auburn. Georgia, despite dressing up to die last night, will still get a shot at singing its rendition of "Folsom Prison Blues."

The strength of the SEC is that it offers a chance at redemption and resurrection.

And as Tennessee can attest, the SEC allows opportunity for bewilderment and embarrassment
