16, for the amount of innings the Chicago Cubs went without allowing a single hit against the Houston Astros. Yesterday Carlos Zambrano became the first pitcher to pitch a no-hitter at a neutral site. Not to be outdone,Ted Lilly did his best to match Z's no-no today. Lilly pitched seven great innings striking out 9, walking one and allowing a lone hit. The Cubs bullpen finished the game off, without allowing another hit. The 6-1 victory over the Astros moves the Cubs to a 7.5 game lead over the struggling Brewers. Also of note, the Brewers fired Ned Yost today. The Cubs magic number is now 7.

Bud Selig should be hung for allowing Zambrano's no-hitter to happen on a "neutral" field.
September 15, 2008 at 5:22 PMYeah Selig really messed this one up. Washington probably should have been the neutral site, it would have helped promote the new stadium and it wouldn't have been close to either teams base.
September 15, 2008 at 5:35 PMI also think that Houstons play was in direct correlation to their heavy hearts for friends and family that may have been in harms way. Chicago really got a huge leg up from the Commish on this one, but I don't think we should let it dimish their accomplishments.
September 15, 2008 at 5:38 PMIt wouldn't have mattered where they held this game, the crowd would have been full of Cubs fans. They easily have the 3rd largest fan base behind the Yankees and Red Sox. We went to the Cubs vs Nationals game in DC and it was like Wrigley Southeast.
September 15, 2008 at 6:01 PMYeah they did have a lot of Cubs fans there. But all Nationals games are like that. I went to games where they played the Dodgers and Mets, and the Nationals fans were easily outnumbered.
