NFL Mock Draft: Picks 6-10

November 11, 2008

6: Seattle Seahawks (2-7): The Seahawks secondary is an absolute disaster. Brian Russell may be the worst starter in the league and Kelly Jennings hasn't been playing much better. But no matter how terrible the secondary is, I don't think the front office in Seattle can justify taking a corner or safety at number six. Which brings me to their selection of Michael Crabtree, WR Texas Tech. Matt Hasselbeck needs some one to do damage with, Crabtree definitely fits that description.

7. San Fransisco 49ers (2-7): No matter who the quarterback is, the man with the duty of throwing and handing it off needs more time. But since the top three lineman are gone, and its too early to reach on Ciron Black or Duke Robinson, the niners will fill another hole. They need someone to play opposite Nate Clements, and Malcom Jenkins of Ohio State is just the man to do it. If Jenkins had went into the draft last year he would easily have been a top 20 selection. In 2009, he is the best DB in the land. He will help make the secondary extremely difficult to pass on in 2009.

8.Houston Texans (3-6): The Texans offense is sufficient and talented enough to keep them in games they should be getting decimated in. That's why the Texans will draft Taylor Mays, S USC. The team is really hurting on defense and will draft the best player available. Mays is just that with off the chart 40 times and a high IQ on defense. The acquisition of Mays should help the defense from being dissected by every other team in the league.

9. Cleveland Browns (3-6): The Browns need a lot of help on defense and their are an abundance of talented players like Maulaga and Laurinaitis to pick from. However I cannot see them passing up on a talented running back with the fact that Jamal Lewis is about to be 30. Chris "Beanie" Wells is the type of talent where you have to put your needs aside and just bask in the glory of your new workhorse. The Browns have an elite offensive line and Wells should take advantage of the big holes this line produces with his raw mix of speed and power.

10. San Diego Chargers (4-5): The Chargers have struggled mightily on defense without their Pro Bowler/Steroid abuser Shawne Merriman on the field. That's why the Chargers will draft Brian Orakpo, DE Texas. Through nine games Orakpo has 8.5 sacks, 11 QB hurries, 13 tackles for loss, and 3 forced fumbles. He is the premier defensive end in this draft class, and should complement the Chargers defense quite well.

Picks 1-5
