Lakers-Pistons recap

November 15, 2008

The Los Angeles Lakers were the last team in the NBA without a loss, that is until they ran into the new look Pistons. Allen Iverson and his new squad took it to the Lakers early and often, shooting the lights out all night. In the first half, the Pistons shot a ridiculous 62 percent while the Lakers struggled to make shots, that combination was all they needed to beat the Lakers. They finished the game with 51 percent shooting while the Lakers shot only 42 percent.

Rasheed Wallace playing the five coupled with his ability to shoot the three, seemed to be the main factor in their dominance of the Lakers. It pulled Andrew Bynum out of the lane and to the arc, leaving the lane open for driving guards like Allen Iverson and Rodney Stuckey.

Rasheed was 4-9 from three point range, scoring 25 on the night and grabbing 13 rebounds. Iverson matched Sheed's scoring output, with 25 of his own. However the player I was the most impressed with was Rodney Stuckey, his rare mix of speed and power at the point guard position helped him dominate Derek Fisher for the entire night.

The Lakers fall to 7-1 thanks to a 106-95 slaughtering, while the Pistons move to 7-2. The Lakers next game is tonight at home against the Chicago Bulls, and can be seen on NBATV. The Pistons head to Phoenix to take on the Suns and Steve Nash on Sunday.
