Raiders resign Lechler and Asomugha

Before the season was over a lot of the Raider nation was under the assumption that both Nmamdi Asomugha and Shane Lechler would be calling somewhere else home in the fall. But thanks to a new direction that has the Raiders paying money to players that can actually play, the Raiders have brought both pro-bowlers back to Oakland. Nmamdi Asomugha signed a huge contract, but since the Raiders don't divulge contract information its hard to put an actual number on it. The contract is between $28.5 million and $29 million over two years with the third year being the Raiders option. Making Nmamdi the highest paid corner in the league. The other monster deal handed out was to the most consistent player on the roster, Shane Lechler. The deal is guessed to be for four years and worth $12 million, and is said to be the best ever given to a punter in the history of the National Football League. Not long after signing his new deal, Lechler was spotted in downtown Oakland celebrating his newly found wealth (photo above).
The two signings insure the Raiders will have atleast two good players on the opening day roster; it also shows that the new mindset brought to the Raider front office by Tom Cable and Gary Busey is to spend money to keep the best players in Oakland. It is yet to be seen what will happen to the players that have underachieved. But expect a lot to change in Oakland this offseason. Tom Cable is excited to have his top two talents back while Busey could be overheard saying "Do you know what CONTRACT means? It means Confounding Opposition and Neutralizing Tarantula Radioactive Alabaster Contagious Typhoid." Indeed Gary, indeed.
