Georgia vs. Tennessee @ 12:21 on SEC Network:
Langston: The Volunteers have Crompton starting at quarterback; therefore, they will lose and Vol fans will continue to question the rationale of hiring Lane Kiffin as head coach. It's a shame too because this team will look like an entirely different squad next year and not in a good way. Eric Berry will most likely head onto greener pastures in the NFL, Rico and Hardesty will have used up their 4 years of eligibility, and the roster will be full of underclassmen. Had they been equipped with a QB that displayed better skills than a catfish, maybe they could have been a championship caliber squad. But nope, Kiffin stuck with Crompton (Stephens couldn't possibly be worse) and now they will be lucky to match last year's dismal record of 5-7. UGA 24 UT 14.
Teach: I haven't picked against UGA all year, and I'm not going to start now. I believe this team will recover from last week's heart breaking loss to LSU and defeat the Vols on the road. While the defense was heavily criticized the first few games of the year, it has held opponents to a combined 33 points in the last two games. They gave up 13 against Arizona St., and they held LSU to 13 points until the last 45 seconds of the game when they allowed Charles Scott to run 33 yards, giving the Tigers the win. The fact that the defense is picking up and the offense has been pretty consistent all year will give the Dawgs a 24 to 10 victory. Also, the Vols have Crompton at quarterback.
Alabama vs. Ole Miss @ 4:30 on CBS:
Langston: Alabama has looked amazing all season long, and as any SEC fan can attest, that will be hard to keep up. Every SEC team that has won the BCS National Championship has had at least one game where they didn't play up to par. For example, in 2007 LSU lost two games in a national championship season. They lost to Kentucky and Arkansas, who finished with a combined 7-9 record in the SEC. Last year, Florida lost to Ole Miss. Alabama has a great shot to be this year's SEC representative in the title game, but it's certain that they will have at least one letdown game; and I think it's going to happen this week. Ole Miss 35 Alabama 28.
Teach: Personally, I think 'Bama might be the best team in the country. What they did to Virginia Tech and Arkansas left an impression on me, as did their first half against Georgia last season. In all honesty, I view Alabama like an abusive stepfather right now. Plus, one of my students and I shared a laugh this week saying that Urban Meyer didn't sell his soul to Satan but to Saban. I think that fact alone bodes well for the Crimson Tide, not only this week, but all season. Alabama 34 Mississippi 17. Keep in mind pro scouts will definitely be tuning in to this game, hoping to catch some glance of how Jevan Snead will fair against pro style defenses.
Florida vs. LSU @ 8:00 on CBS:
Langston: During the UT-UF game, I found myself repeatedly saying "Without Tebow, Florida loses this game." Tebow had 60% of Florida's yards in this game, not to mention he converted numerous 3rd down plays by himself. We don't really know how the game would have played out without him involved, but I like to imagine an alternate universe where Tebow is Crompton and Crompton is Tebow. In this cosmos, when Tebow runs the ball, he trips over his own feet and fumbles, and everytime Crompton throws bullet passes at the ground the ball somehow tips off of someone's foot into the hands of a Vol receiver. In this dissimilar world, Tennessee always wins the game by 30 points, and Urban Meyer runs off the field crying after Tebow's third fumble, which always happens sometime in the second quarter. But I digress. This weekend, the Gators play a team with a non-catfish QB, something the Vols aren't as lucky to claim. Also, LSU is as skilled as the Vols on defense, and they have Les Miles. As for the Gators, if Tebow plays post-concussion, it's very likely that he won't be the same player that gained 60% of Florida's yards in week three; and if he doesn't, Florida has an uphill battle on their hands. Either way, LSU wins 27-21.
Teach: The question this week for the Gators comes down to is Tim Tebow more Lazarus or the old clunker with too many miles that either you or your best friend drove back in high school. One of you may or may not have had to hold a boom box in your lap just so you could have music while cruising up and down Route 3, past the five McDonald's', within a mile radius. I'm going with the latter. Tim Tebow is being Cadillac Williamsed right now. Tigers 21 Gators 20. Of course, I may regret this pick, seeing as just a couple weeks ago I was unimpressed with LSU.
Deckfight Game of the Week
Vandy vs. Army @ 12:00 on : Seriously, who knows the name of the Army mascot? Without Google?
I wrote a whole big paragraph, then realized no one in their right mind wants to read about this game. Army already lost to Duke and Tulane, might as well tack another expensive private school onto the list. See, I told you there is a mini-elite conference already forming.
Vandy 30 Army 18
