2009-2010 ACC Previews: Florida State

December 30, 2009

LCB believes that while teams have been playing games since the start of November the real college basketball season does not begin until conference play is in full gear. Over the next couple of weeks, we will preview each ACC team by remembering some of the conference's past players that may have gone forgotten in some circles.

(Quite possibly the best youtube ever created for a marginal European player. It's like Matrix Reloaded, but basketball.)

Season Outlook: During the early 2000's Florida State was trying to regain some of the greatness left behind by the likes of Sam Cassell, Bobby Sura and Charlie Ward, desperately drilling holes in the walls of the Tucker Center, hoping some of the blood, sweat, and tears of those early-90's teams would come oozing out. Anthony Richardson was part of the class of 2001, which did not promise to be saviors of a program, but perhaps just another rung on the basketball ladder his early-90's cohorts had climbed. Over four relatively mundane years Richardson constantly flashed bits of the athleticism and talent he had shown in Raleigh's Leesville Road High School. Talented, raw, athletic, and underachieving were the hallmarks of those Richardson FSU teams, continually clawing at the middle of the ACC pack and suckling from the NCAA bubble every March, only to find it run out of air and burst. The 2009-10 Seminoles appear to be very talented and NCAA bound, but once again one has to wonder which ghosts will come pouring out of the Turner Center walls; Sam Cassell's sure handed apparition, or Anthony Richardson's shaky, uneven ghoul.

Switch out Anthony Robertson for Von Wafer and that youtube clip for this one(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yu50HO6viB8), and you still have a perfectly good and relevant FSU preview.

I almost used Von Wafer, but I like him too much. That youtube is also very good. I'm not sure who is behind all of these former FSU players' youtubes, but someone need to contract that guy to do good player as well.

First, Ice, you captured FSU basketball perfectly. Super athletic freaks who wind up being underwhelming. Sadly, this is now the story for their football program as well.

Second, I think we definitely all undersold this team when we made our picks about a month ago. It's the one team I I think all of us missed.

Thus the crux of my article. Will this team be as awesome as they can be, or will they once again underwhelm us. I'm actually hoping they are better than our predictions, because Maryland can't be better than FSU, just can't be.
