Neanderthal Weight: Blake Griffin Undergoes Season Ending Surgery
In Blake Griffin, In LA Clippers, In NBA, In Power Forwards, In TeachJanuary 13, 2010
Here at the LCB we always knew Blake Griffin was a caveman, and we assumed he was the next link in the evolutionary chain of the power forward position: Bob Pettit begot Karl Malone and Charles Barkley who begot Tim Duncan, KG, and Dirk who all begot Amare. Their footprints led us to Blake Griffin, but now we learn that Griffin will undergo season ending surgery on his broken knee cap, leading one to wonder if Griffin is more Danny Manning or Greg Oden than Karl Malone or Tim Duncan, or, in other words, more Neanderthal than Homo sapien sapien? A dead end. A victim of providence. The prey and not the hunter. Let's hope Blake Griffin's college highlights don't wind up in a museum as mannequins of futility.

not sure I agree with the video's choice of Petit as the 5th best pf of all time. there are a lot of guys that come to mind that could have slid into that spot, but i love that video footage, especially of the '50s crowd
January 13, 2010 at 6:30 PMPetit had career averages of 26.4 points, 16.2 rebounds and 3 assists along with 43.6 percent from the field and 76.1 percent from the free throw line. He was selected to the All-NBA team in the eleven seasons he played, ten of the selections as a member of the first team. He also led the Hawks to an NBA Championship over Bill Russell and the Celtics, where he scored 50 points in the clinching game of the series.
January 13, 2010 at 6:48 PMWe may have never seen him play. But with all those accolades and the stats to match, he belongs in the top 5. And he might not be high enough.
i guess i should rephrase my original comment. i can see the case for Pettit, but i'm not sure he would have sprung to my mind immediately. the most impressive accolade for him might be that he dropped 50 in the game 6 clincher against the celtics
January 13, 2010 at 7:11 PMi think a lot of people would probably name kevin mchale, and i think part of that is because mchale has his own personal hype machine in bill simmons and a rabid fan base. Pettit gets overlooked because he lacks those two things and because of his era. i apologize to hawks fans everywhere for the oversight
January 13, 2010 at 7:14 PMI just broke down and watched that youtube. And I have to say that it is the worst basketball related youtube I have ever laid eyes on.
January 15, 2010 at 10:37 AMWasn't it awesome? They didn't even spell Pettit's name right.
January 15, 2010 at 6:06 PMI personally like the all-lower-cased, no-punctuation, poorly phrased explanation after Duncan as to why they picked Duncan.
January 15, 2010 at 6:28 PMAlso, Disco/Techno music? WTF?
"I pick tim because he ALOT of rings."
January 15, 2010 at 6:41 PMAlso, did you notice the apology for the music at the 35 sec mark. Apparently, the original choice was "Juicy" by B.I.G. How was this song the second choice?
And why post an apology instead of just fixing it?
January 16, 2010 at 12:28 AMRidiculous youtube. Stinkin awful.
