College Ball

Kentucky vs. Ole Miss: Our exclusive basketball coverage live from my room in Indiana started off in Lexington, as the Wildcats took apart the Ole Miss Rebels 85-75 in a score that looked much closer than it was. Mississippi hung around early, especially in spurts when Kentucky showed their youth, almost looking bored at times. They dominated in the paint, with a +11 rebounding advantage. DeMarcus Cousins pouted through the contest with 18 points and 13 rebounds. All the discussion surrounding John Wall’s mental state might end up taking a back seat to Cousins, who looks like he’s either going to have a break down and start crying, or punch someone at any minute. Wall had a rather quiet 17 points and 7 assists, also adding a highlight-worthy block that a point guard should not have had the hops to accomplish. Terrico White led Miss with 19.
Man of the Match: Cousins (18 points 13 rebounds and 4 blocks)

Michigan St. vs. Wisconsin: The second contest was another high-flying, high-scoring Big Ten tilt, as Sconsin battled Sparty. It wasn’t much of a battle, as the Badgers simply do not lose at home, specifically not to Tom Izzo and Michigan St. Of greater concern for MSU is the fact that their best player, point guard Kalin Lucas, sprained his ankle midway through the 2nd half. It looked relatively serious, and may cause him to miss some time. Despite early foul trouble from its best player, point guard Trevon Hughes, Wisconsin started the game 5-8 from deep, jumping out to 38-23 lead at intermission. They cruised through the second half for 67-49 dubya, bringing them to within two games of Michigan St. atop the Big Ten at 7-3. Jason Bohannon led the way with 19, while Sophomore Jordan Taylor added 17.
Man of the Match: Keaton Nankivil (11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal , 1 block)

Paid Professionals

OKC vs. Atlanta: In the game of the evening in a night that lacked suspense, Kevin Durant and the used to be Seattle Supersonics took out the Hawks 106-99. Durant had 33 and 11, while Russell Westbrook was one rebound and one assist away from a triple-double, going for 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists. The Hawks squandered a great shooting night from Joe Johnson, who hit for 37 on 13-20 shooting. The Thunder move up a game into 8th place in the West with the win.
Man of the Match: Kevin Durant (9-18, 14-14 FT, 33 pts, 11 rbs, 2 stls)

Cleveland 105, Memphis 89: The Grizzle predictably came out flat after their huge win over the Lake Show the previous evening. LeBron only took 14 shots, yet doled out 15 assists without two of his best shooters in Mo Williams and Delonte West. Shaq put up a 13 and 13, while Boobie Gibson ( I just wanted to type the name boobie) added 16. Zach Randolph led the poor effort by Memphis with 15.
Man of the Match: LeBron James ( 7-14, 7-7 FT, 22 pts, 6 rbs, 15 assts.

L.A. Clippers 90, Chicago 82: I don’t even really want to talk about this one, as my allegiances lie with the boys from the Windy City. How on earth they can lose twice to the Clippers in two weeks after beating Phoenix, Houston, San Antonio, and New Orleans on the road is beyond me. The Clippers pulled away from the Bulls with a 28 point third quarter. Eric Gordon continued to torture the state of Illinois with 24 points, while the ugliest player in the NBA (think Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs), Chris Kaman put up 21 points and 11 boards. Luol Deng had 18 for Chitown, as they spiraled to a mediocre 23-23 record.
Man of the Match: Marcus Camby (11 pts, 9 rbs, 4 stls, 4 blks)

Orlando 99, Milwaukee 83: The Magic took advantage of the Bucks’ 36% shooting from the field, and 47% shooting from the charity stripe to come out on top. Dwight Howard and Vince Carter had double-doubles with 22-11 and 17-10 respectively. Carter also had 7 assists, and J.J. Redick added 15 off the pine. In an unrelated side note, he’s still a homosexual. Luke Ridnour and Charlie Bell had 13 for Bucks.
Man of the Match: Dwight Howard (22 pts, 11 rbs, 5 blks.)

Indiana 130, Toronto 115:
The Pacers survived a 35 point night from Chris Bosh, and 34 from Andrea Bargnani to pull out the win from Nap town. Seven Pacers reached double figures in this one, with Danny Granger putting in 23 and Troy Murphy adding 20 and 14 rebounds. Slow Roy Hibbert ( I doubt he’s mentally slow, but he reminds me of Lennie from Of Mice and Men for some reason) even chipped in with 18 and 9 for the quasi-hometown Pacers.
Man of the Match: Danny Granger ( 23 pts, 7 rbs, 4 assts, 2 stls, 3 blks)

Houston 119, Golden St. 97: Shockingly, a team known for its defensive abilities from the land of Ahhhhhnold gave up 119. The Rockets shot 50% from the field, and Golden St. might have sneezed on them once or twice in the name of attempting to get a defensive stop. Aaron Brooks and Carl Landry both went for 24, with Chuck Hayes adding 13 rebounds and a whopping + 33 in plus/minus. Yes I know, they actually keep this as a stat now. Coby Karl, he of the “15th man on the Lakers fame” actually played and scored 12 points and had 7 assists. This proves how awesome the Warriors are, as he actually PLAYED 38 MINUTES.
Man of the Match: Aaron Brooks (24 pts, 6 rbs, 8 assts)

Detroit 97, New Jersey 93: Rip Hamilton had 22 points and 8 assists while 50 Cent’s twin brother Rodney Stuckey had 21 and 7 helpers. Both these teams are horrible. I’m going to bed now.
Man of the Match: Ben Wallace ( 8 pts, 6 rbs, 4 stls, 1 blk)
