2010 NFL- NFC Preview: A Cursory Overview of the Season Ahead

September 12, 2010

NFC East
Dallas Cowboys: I don't have any trust for this team at all. They have skilled players at every position, and their offense should only be better with Dez Bryant. With their ridiculous schedule (Minny, GB, Indy, and Houston on the road, home vs Saints) and the fact that Wade Phillips is still their coach, I can't see them being anything more than a divisional round loser.
New York Giants: What happened to this team? It's only been a couple years since they won the Super Bowl, yet it feels like a totally different franchise. With their stable of receivers gaining experience, they should be better. Though, how much is the big question. If Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw can return to form, they could push for a wildcard spot. But that's a big if.
Philadelphia Eagles: Kevin Kolb is in a lose-lose situation. He's replacing the greatest QB in franchise history, meaning he will have to win a Super Bowl just to bypass McNabb. Plus, he plays in Philly. Put it together and it'll be about 3 quarters before the fans start calling for the backup, and that's the optimist in me speaking. Still, with all the weapons on offense it should be a pretty easy transition. Eagles are my division winner.
Washington Redskins: The Redskins for the first time in years should be watchable. However that doesn't excuse them from the disaster of a situation with Haynesworth, one that could and should have been avoided. Good coaches inspire their best players to be better, Shanahan makes examples of them in the media. No wonder he's always close to the top on the list of "coaches you don't want to play for." Also, watchable doesn't mean Super Bowl, so calm down Skins' fans.

NFC South
Atlanta Falcons: I like the Falcons to take over the division. Turner is back in shape, Matt Ryan gets better every time he throws, and the defense should be better (I don't know how it could get worse) with the acquisition of Dunta Robinson. They should bounce back this season and nab the wild card over the Cowboys.
Carolina Panthers: Please trade Steve Smith, and DeAngelo Williams. I don't want to watch another year of their talent wasted. K, thanks!
New Orleans Saints: The Saints finally got over the hump, what a great story right? So, can we now stop hearing about how they fixed New Orleans all on their own? Saints are still far-and-away the best team in the division. I like them to win the division, and us to be reminded that they, alone, saved the city from the evil workings of BP.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: This team makes me happy to be a Raider fan, meaning they look a lot like the Bucs we used to know, pre-Dungy era. But they have the best named player in the league, so that's got to count for something, right?

NFC West
Arizona Cardinals: So, you release your QB, just because he was a douche? Makes sense, when you have someone other than Max Hall and Derek Anderson. But you don't, so have fun returning to the league of suck.
San Fransisco 49ers: Clearly the best team of the division, even if Alex Smith is still their QB. Should get 6 wins from divisional games alone. They still won't do jack in playoffs until they get a better QB.
Seattle Seahawks: They have some pieces in place, just not quite there yet. Enjoy watching Carroll get crushed, because if they start to win, his arrogance will reach a level previously unknown.
St. Louis Rams: Don't believe the hype. Bradford was playing against 2nd and 3rd string defensive players. He'll be better than what they had last year, but they still have no receivers and no depth on defense. But don't get down Rams fans, Trent Richardson will look great in blue and gold.
