Number of the Day: Ryan Kelly's 18 straight makes
In Alaa Abdelnaby, In Duke Blue Devils, In number of the day, In Russ, In Ryan KellyJanuary 28, 2011
The 18 consecutive field goal attempts made by Duke's Ryan Kelly spans four games from January 15th against Virginia to the second half of tonight's game against Boston College. Even though Kelly looks like a YMCA rec league player, he has become an important cog in this year's Duke team, picking up the scoring slack in the absence of injured Kyrie Irving since December 4th. He will never impress you with his athleticism when compared to the Plumlee brothers, but he has earned his time this year with his consistent outside scoring and all around smart play. As Nolan Smith said after his 20 point performance against Wake Forest, "he is just a player." His averages the last 4 games: 13.25 points, 5.25 rebounds, .77 FG%, and .80 3P%. His 18 consecutive field goals was two short of the school record set by center Alaa Abdelnaby, which leads me to his quote about Duke academics that makes me laugh, "The only way I can get five A's is when I sign my name."

Well, he's definitely keeping the tradition of making stupid faces alive in Durham.
