Number of the Day: Kendall Marshall's Four Fouls
In ACC, In Bryan Harvey, In Kendall Marshall, In Maryland Terrapins, In North Carolina, In number of the day, In Teach, In UNCFebruary 5, 2012
This Tar Heel team is a margarita on the beach one moment and a migraine the next. During the second half of their game against Maryland (who isn't very good), I kept waiting for the nine point deficit to snowball into thirty points, as it did against Florida State not too long ago, for these are the kind of expectations that rest like Jenga blocks on the rickety shoulders of Tyler Zeller and John Henson and glass ankle of Harrison Barnes. Those guys grabbed the rebounds, altered Maryland's shots, and got to pose after clutch baskets, but it's Kendall Marshall's vision that makes all of this team's manic depressive whims bearable.
But, perhaps what was even more impressive than tying his own school record for assists was the fact that Marshall played all but 70 seconds of the final seven minutes with four fouls, which is the kind of self-control he's going to need the rest of the season with no one else ready to play significant minutes at the point.
And, yes, Russ, I'm fully willing to admit that I can't tell the difference between a more cautious Kendall Marshall on the defensive end than a more aggressive Kendall Marshall, but then, I don't have his eyes.
