Well they do now, after news came out that Daniel Snyder and his Red Zebra Broadcasting company acquired Sportstalk 980. Which makes it inevitable that it will transition from a Fox Sports Channel to ESPN radio much like the 3 stations Snyder bought in 2006 (which created the Redskins Radio Network). This move will make The Junkies the only unfiltered radio source for Redskins news. I like the Junkies, but they don't really focus on sports. Also this will almost certainly put Steve Czaban (host of the morning show on 980) in the unemployment line in exchange for Mike and Mike . This is great news for the Redskins, but terrible for people with an IQ over 75. Thanks for the dumbing down of DC, Daniel. Here is the press release from the PR staff of the Redskins.
Red Zebra Broadcasting today announced that it has entered into an
agreement to acquire WTEM (Sportstalk 980), WTNT (570-AM) and WWRC (1260-AM)
from Clear Channel Communications, creating an exciting new combination of local
and national talk radio programming.
"It has always been our goal to grow
our company, expand our Redskins Radio footprint while also venturing into other
forms of broadcast entertainment," said Bruce Gilbert, CEO of Red Zebra
Broadcasting. "We are especially thrilled to be adding local sports talk icons
John Thompson, Doc Walker, Brian Mitchell, Steve Czaban, Andy Polin and others
to our team, which already includes Hall of Famer John Riggins ."
This officially makes Daniel Snyder the Dictator of DC sports radio, hope you like all your sports talk radio filtered DC area sports fans.
