Brett Favre has asked for his unconditional contractual release from the Packers, the message was delivered to the Packers via overnight mail and was sent by Favre's agent Bus Cook.
Cook, on behalf of Favre, expressed a desire to have an amicable parting, as the Packers have been reluctant to embrace his return. Three days ago during a conference call with the Packers, Favre expressed his desire to return to play in 2008. Favre has three years remaining on his contract at a total of $39 million. He currently is on the reserve-retired list.
The letter suggests that Favre's accomplishments for the franchise merited the team honoring his request to be released, also asking that the action be taken "with no strings attached." Favre does not want to be traded, sources said, because he wants the freedom of choice to play for another franchise.
Favre has been throwing and running with a Hattiesburg high school team for the past month and was seen throwing 50-yard bombs on a rope to the high school recievers.
This news bares a lot of questions on this will be handeled by the Packers.

- Will they release him or try and trade him?
- Will they keep him on the reserve-retired list and not let him go anywhere?
- If they did try and trade him, where too and for what?
- If they do release him what teams will he talk too and who will he sign with?
In my humble opinion the Packers are in a lose-lose situation. If they release him, Favre loses that legacy of only playing in one city. It will be tough and weird to watch, like Montana in Kansas City. If they trade him or don't release him, they will look terrible because he has held this franchise on his back for the last decade and they wont honor his wishes.
Either way this is great news for John Madden and Bears fans, really how awesome would the Bears-Packers games be with Favre as a Bear? I just have to feel for all the Packer fans, you try to move on and he keeps pulling back in and this time its not good news. Sorry Teach.
