LCB NFL Picks: Thanksgiving Day

November 26, 2009

Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions @ 12:30 on Fox:
Langston: After the first quarter of last weeks game against the Browns, the Lions were down 24-10. That was when rookie QB Matt Stafford realized he had Calvin Johnson on his team, or at least realized the amount of damage Megatron could do on a football field. Whether it was catching 7 balls for 161 yards and a touchdown, or pulling defenders away from the other receivers, Johnson was making it much easier for the rookie to do his job. So easy in fact, it allowed him to become the first rookie to throw five TDs in a game since Ray Buivid did it for the Bears in 1937. The connection between Stafford and Johnson looks to be a real good one, giving the Lions and their fans hope for the future. However both may miss the game, making this an uphill battle for a team that still has memories of 0-16. GB 35, DET 21.

Drody: Welcome to the wonderful world of Thanksgiving football, where we have 2 games that will probably be terrible. The first involves the Packers and the Lions in an epic NFC north match-up. What a downer the NFC North has been this year. The top three teams were supposed to be the Vikings, Bears and Packers, and all three were supposed to be battling for playoff spots. But alas, it was not to be. The Bears and the Packers have been nowhere near as good as some expectations, and so it leads us to here. I think the Lions pull off the upset this week. After last weeks win, I think a little momentum is goin to help. Calvin Johnson will have a big game. Lions 24, Packers 14

Oakland Raiders vs. Dallas Cowboys @ 4:15 on CBS:
Langston: Bruce Gradkowski and Tom Cable made me a happy fan again. When Jamarcus was starting, I watched the games with an anxious feeling, knowing at any moment the game could be given away. His inability to protect the football made it hard to watch, and his inability to admit his faults made it impossible to defend him. Thankfully Tom wised up, realizing Jamarcus wasn't learning from his mistakes and implanted Bruce as the starting QB. Gradkowski doesn't have the arm that Russell was blessed with, but he doesn't have any of Russell's negative qualities either, he is just a QB whose team comes first. With Bruce under center I think the Raiders will make this a Thanksgiving to remember (well, for me anyways), with a 24-17 upset over America's team.

Drody: The second wonderful game of Thanksgiving, and again, I'm giving thanks for upsets. I think the Raiders are gonna pull this one out too. Again the Raiders are riding a bit of momentum going against the Cowboys. I hate the Cowboys. They are the anti-America's team to me. So I root against them any time I can. They ruin Thanksgiving sometimes. Raiders 20, Cowboys 10

New York Giants vs. Denver Broncos @ 8:20 on NFL Network:
Langston: Remember last week? When I said the most enjoyable thing about the AFC West race, was watching the Broncos blow their great start to the season? Yeah, well, it still rings true. Giants 28, Broncos 21.

Drody: Finally, a good game. Both these teams are slumping, but they should have a good game here. I feel like the Broncos should always be the 3rd Thanksgiving game. Just because their name starts with the letter D. Anyway. I think that Orton will play, and that the Broncos pick up the win. I'm not counting the Giants out yet, but the Broncos need the win more. Broncos 31, Giants 28

To update, I am still a happy Raider fan. They got crushed, but I'm still a happy fan. Mostly because the QB didn't lose this game, the entire team did. Which is something I haven't said in a while in relation to the Raiders.

While the Packers haven't been quite as good as advertised, they're not as terrible as Drody would have everyone believe. Take away their two games against the Vikings and they're 7-2. If the offensive line were any better and one of the four losses had been to anyone other than the Bucs, people would still talk about this team as a sleeper in the NFC.
