Ahab and Starbuck: The Dueling Identities of the Baltimore Ravens

A little known fact about Captain Ahab
is that his last name was Lewis.

Some have found this flouting of emotion obnoxious, while others have found it to be inspirational. SNL found it to be hilarious as they had Kenan Thompson’s caricature of Lewis proclaim that upon winning the Super Bowl he will pass through the stadium’s roof and into heaven. People can take Lewis’ devotion in many ways, but as Americans, we should all be wary of the role Lewis assumes when he proclaims that his team has a higher purpose, when he denotes spiritual significance onto a game of inches and yards that are measured not in acts of faith but in the palpability of chain links.
