LCB NBA Picks: Lebron's Destination

July 8, 2010

Everyone else is doing it, so we thought we would join in on the fun, because we're sheep. Yep, you guessed right, we're going to tell you where Lebron is playing next season before he gives his big announcement tomorrow night. So give us a moment, as we prepare to look into the deep dark future of tomorrow and make the jump to see what we see.
Where Should Lebron Sign?
Russ: If Lebron values winning a championship above all else, then Chicago is the easy answer here. With the signing of Carlos Boozer, the Bulls have a lineup that without Lebron now is at worst the 5th best team in the East behind the Celtics, Magic, Heat, and Cavaliers if Lebron were to stay. Add Lebron to that mix and its instantly the best team in the East. With Carlos Boozer, who averaged 20 and 11 last season, you have the perfect pick and role player that works to the strenghts of both Lebron and Derrick Rose, an elite point guard that averaged 20 points and 6 assists last season. Add two more legitimate post players in Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson who rebound and defend inside, this team would be one three point threat away from being unstoppable.

Langston: The two best options, basketball-wise, are Miami and Chicago. If he picks either, that team instantly becomes the odds-on-favorite to win the East. The Heat offer two fantastic running mates, that would make it impossible to stop them on offense. But with DWade and Bosh surely getting max deals and only two other players currently on the roster (Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers), it will be extremely difficult for them to fill out the roster with Lebron getting the bulk of the rest of the cash left under the salary cap. So that makes Chicago the best choice for Lebron. The Bulls offer a good young core, that could contend for championships for the foreseeable future along with the chance for Lebron to be the unquestioned leader in a major market.

Where Will Lebron Sign?
Russ: I don't believe Lebron values winning a championship above all else. The Summer of Lebron has taken a predictable turn as he announces that he will be doing a hour show tomorrow to announce his decision, continuing his self-indulgence and look at me attitude that goes along with his obsession of becoming a "global icon". This is all about promoting himself and creating the Lebron brand, so in line with that way of thinking, I don't think he will share the spotlight in Miami with Wade/Bosh and he won't want to play in the shadow of Jordan and his six championships in Chicago. The decision is between continuing what he hasn't finished in Cleveland, or rebranding himself in the biggest market in the world in New York. Final prediction: Knicks.

Langston: It seems as if for the past three years everyone has been trying to predict where Lebron would sign. Some looked for clues; like his number change, the address change for his LLC, his affinity for the Yankees, his alignment with World Wide Wes, his realignment with the Akron Gang, his excursion into Twitter, the rebirth of his website, the importance of his "brand" and his friendship with Jay Z. Some broke down everything he's said and did. They have broken down his facial expressions, the inflictions in his voice, and the subtle hesitation when answering the press; just to find any notion of where he might go. But with yesterday's announcement came the only clue needed to show where he will sign. He will be a Cavalier next season. If he were to go through all this trouble so he could reserve an hour on ESPN just to humiliate his hometown and break the hearts of Ohioans everywhere, on national television nonetheless, just to go elsewhere, he would almost automatically join Tiger Woods, Alex Rodriguez and Michael Vick as one of the most hated sports figures in the country. He knows this, his people (hopefully) know this, and they know that it could be a career killer. But then again, there have been a boatload of narcissistic athletes in our time, and none of them had a presentation like this just to announce where they will play. Final Prediction: Cleveland

What say you Tim Legler?

Russ: While it appears self-indulgent, in LeBron's defense, the proceeds from the hour special are all going to the Boys and Girls Club.

My final prediction would have been Chicago or Cleveland. After Bosh said he was joining Wade, I would thought that would have forced LeBron to make this a basketball decision purely and that he would have gone to the Bulls. Now, as Chris Broussard is reporting, it appears that LeBron is making the basketball decision and making it without the ego and going to Miami.

Langston... you should take Whitlocks job at foxsports.com.

Timestamps prove yours posted half a day before Whitlocks. I would have never guessed Whitlock for a LCB plagiarist.

Kudos on insight.

If he truly is going to Miami, let me clarify my statement of "without the ego." The lack of ego would be on the court. Playing in Miami would surely mean that LeBron's on the court game would trend more and more towards Magic and Oscar than MJ. I would expect him to be more of a facilitator than anything, and the fact that Wade is already the figurehead down there means that LeBron did put winning ahead of everything; of course, it also means that tonight's press conference is an effort to make LeBron appear as the one in command because the Heat are Wade's team, hence, the orchestration of the announcements in the order of perceived importance. Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for a show because LeBron, Wade, and Bosh got together not just to win championships but to scale the peaks of great teams.

Thanks Folse. However, even though I'd love to take Whitlock down a peg or two, it's really the most obvious conclusion one could take from this whole scenario.

I'd like to add that I'm pulling for New Jersey. I've heard that they are not really in the running, but they would instantly become the most interesting team in sports. They would have Lebron, Jay Z, and that Bond villain they are calling an owner. Also, if he goes to Miami, do they become more or less likable?

I still don't think he goes to Miami, and I am rooting against it. Miami deserves that caliber of a team like Obama deserves to be blamed for the oil spill. For some reason I'm rooting for New Jersey, probably just because of Prokhorov.

Lebron should become the Brett Favre of the NBA. Just decide that he will only sign one year deals every season, so every summer is a free-for-fall to sign him and this press conference becomes a regular event every summer. Wouldn't put this idea past him.

Langston... i guess you should have gone with the not so logical choice of miami. Afterall, how can a man enraged with the lust for scones and applesauce think clearly!? haha. Hope he doesn't do FL dirty like he did cleveland. I've got a bad taste in my mouth about this...

Keep your head up Folse, it'll be cleaned up sometime in the next two decades.

Thanks Teach, I thought it was the perfect scene for this whole story. I'm surprised I haven't seen a photo just like it anywhere else.
