Dunk of the Week: The 13th Tablet of Blake Griffin

These dunks deserve to be named, labeled, and organized, not by highlight reels, but by poets and griots. Ziggurats need to be erected in their honor, and followers ought to be indoctrinated. Words can not describe, but just watch the Clipper bench and you can see that the sight of Blake Griffin soaring over a Sea of Pain enables his witnesses to fly as well, even if only for a few fleeting moments.

Dunk of the Week: J.R. Smith Flies and Carmelo Scowls

You've probably already seen it, but it's worth seeing again.  J.R. Smith's dunk over Gary Neal is one of those plays that epitomizes not only the essence of one player (Smith), but takes a Polaroid of a team's chemistry.

Dunk of the Week: Shannon Brown on Mikki Moore

Sometime today, I will be passing around a "get well" card for Mikki. I would appreciate it if everyone signed the card and wrote a little message for him. And don't worry, I'll tell him it was from all of us.

Dunk of the Week: Aldridge Shames Dampier

Since we have been doing the dunks of the week, no big men have stood up and claimed the worthless yet honorable prize. That changed last night when Lamarcus Aldridge faked a pick and got some space from Dirk. Steve Blake sees the open lane and drops it in to Lamarcus just in time for him to posterize the helpless Erik Dampier.



That was sick, but what is up with that monstrosity of a logo at midcourt?

Dunk of the Week: Terry goes back to school

This weeks edition of "dunk of the week" isn't really due to the dunk per se, but more so for the way the dunk was able to be completed. The play took place in last night's game between the Hornets and Mavericks, where Chris Paul dribbles through Jason Terry's legs and then dishes it off at the last moment to Rasual Butler. Enjoy.

This week has been a busy one for myself and the rest of the LCB staff, so much so that I forgot to post a "dunk of the week." So to get you ready for the all-star festivities tonight, I decided to post the NBA's top ten all-time of the dunk contest. Enjoy.

Dunk of the Week: Hilton gets Spurred

I have been harsh on him in the past, but I have got to give it up for Manu on this play. He starts the play off by burning his defender thanks to a nice pick from Tony Parker, gets the dish, flys through the lane, and finishes by absolutely posterizing Hilton Armstrong. If this play is any evidence of his improved health, the western conference should be put on notice. With Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, the out of nowhere skills Roger Mason has been displaying, Manu, and a younger bench; this team has what it needs to be a true test for any team in the league and should be considered a contender for the championship.

Dunk of the week: Cheikh Samb, meet Mr. Roy

So your an NBA player; you get paid well and you get to travel the country playing the game you love. But you only average 6 minutes a game and you have only played in 9 so far. Your two biggest dreams after making it to the league and lasting longer than a season, are to win the Finals and to get your own poster. Playing for the Clippers, you understand the Finals are an impossibility. But what about a poster? With that amount of playing time the probability of ending up on your own poster are to put it mildly, bleak. Yet in the clip below, Samb finds away around these statistical barriers by borrowing a trick from Greg Ostertag's book: If your not going to get your own poster, get on someone else's.

Dunk of the Week: How's that knee taste edition

The following clip includes Jarrett Johnson of the Anderson University Trojans and a poor fellow named Mason Ambler who plays for the Coker College Cobras. But the names and locations of where these players attend classes and hoop at is inconsequential. What matters here is what happens to Mason Ambler in the clip. I would walk you through it, but words don't do it justice.

Dunk of the Week: Josh Smith is a grown man

If Josh Smith and the Hawks didn't make you a fan last season when they took the Celtics to game 7 as the 8th seed, this dunk over Kendrick Perkins should.

Dunk of the Week

Emeka Okafor is known for his stellar defensive play and consistentcy in the paint. Overall he has had a decent NBA career considering he plays for the Bobcats. Yet head coach Larry Brown recently said he wants Okafor to be more assertive on both sides of the floor. Last night Okafor did just that by stepping up to challenge Dwyane Wade. Lets go to the video tape to see how it worked out for him:

Dunk of the week: LBJ goes Dr. J on us

Last night King James dropped 40 points for the third time this season to help move the Cavaliers winning streak to 5 games. He also dunked from the free-throw line (well almost from the free-throw line) and let me remind you this is in a game situation while being chased by a defender.
