While Langston took care of last Saturday's SEC post, our blog's been reduced to a weekly football caption over the last month. However, that doesn't mean we haven't been writing elsewhere recently. Check out the links below, and we promise to diversify our portfolio here in the coming days (especially now that basketball is truly upon us).
Just make me look good guys, and I promise to give you all the credit.
It looks like Esteban OchoCinco's recent display of kicking skills may be going to his head. I know, it's quite the shocker, but this time he may actually pay for it because he called out the last person anyone should talk trash to, in WBC Welterweight Champion Andre Berto. Cinco, basically said if they were to fight he would knock out Berto. In his response to the wide receiver, Berto pretty much guaranteed everything but a beheading, so good luck with that,Chad.
Today against the Mets, Eric Bruntlett got the first unassisted triple play to end a game since Johnny Nuenn did it for the Tigers on May 31, 1927. For video evidence of the continued failings of the New York Mets, click here.
For those of you that want a more traditional NFL Season preview than what we are currently offering, head over to Hard Knox Sports, where they have their power rankings up for both the AFC and NFC.
I was perusing our new favorite site (Deckfight) today and basically lost track of time. You can say I became enthralled, and I recommend making it a daily read; but for those with time constraints, read his Friday Five from two weeks ago where he gives us 5 bands from North Carolina to check out.
Lastly, here is a little visual and aural stimulation for your Sunday evening.
The weekly column where we try and mention anything we missed in the last week (or longer). It's a lot like those moments when you're out of ketchup, at a fine fast food restaurant, but lack the energy to go and get more; so you scrape away at the dregs on your hamburger wrapper, until all you can see is silver aluminum foil. It's classy, yet unrefined.
Black hole sized, head ache: It's been an odd week in the NFL with the Eagles signing Vick, the Vikings signing Favre, the NFL's unveiling of doggy jerseys, Plaxico getting two years for shooting himself in the leg, and Esteban OchoCinco possibly gaining kicker eligibility for fantasy football. But none of these stories come close to the madness happening in Alameda.
Earlier this week news broke that head coach Tom Cable allegedly cold-cocked an assistant coach, giving him a fractured jaw. That coach was none other than Randy Hanson, the same coach suspended by Lane Kiffin for a week last season. Kiffin claimed Hanson had medical issues, suspended him and wanted him fired. Al Davis instead backed Hanson. Kiffin was let go, and Cable talked with the defensive staff and agreed that Hanson should be fired. Fast forward a couple months and Cable allegedly dropped Hanson after he runs his mouth again. I don't bring this up to talk about the possible legal ramifications or how this will affect the team ,although it seems that they are taking the news rather well, but because it's another disheartening story about the Raiders.
Every time I get even a little bit excited about the team's progress, something negates any reason to be optimistic. This time it's the leadership, or lack thereof. Ever since he has taken over the reins as head coach in Oakland, things looked as if they were changing. They ended the season on a good note, knocking both the Broncos and Buccaneers out of the playoffs. This season looked like it would continue that trend of improvement, and it showed in their depth against the Cowboys. However, after hearing news that the coaches are supposedly attacking each other, it makes you think that things may actually be regressing in the black hole that is the Raiders franchise. Like Jerry McDonald said,
...if Cable did send one of his assistants to the hospital, is this the guy you want teaching self-control and discipline to a team desperately in need of self-control and discipline?
Buy this album: YACHT "See Mystery Lights" I could write a long-winded review, but myself and Pitchfork are on the same page on this album. Plus, they are huge in Sweden, so you know, they must be awesome.

A lot of people, for various reasons, will root for Tyler Hansbrough to fail on the next level. A lot of people start debates about whom the best Carolina players are, with their sole purpose seeming to be the degradation of Hansbrough. Most people want to talk about all the things he's not, but here's an article that talks about all the things he is.
Here is one of the few articles that offered a fresh spin on the whole Favre saga, without demonizing or deifying the quarterback. Covering this story objectively has become quite the Herculean feat.
This joke was on Washington Post Live:
Q: When is a Final Four appearance not a Final Four appearance?
With the new Yankee Stadium set to open up for business, the one thing you need to know before heading to the park is BYOB. That is unless you like paying $9 for a 24 oz. Pabst Blue Ribbon,Schaeffer or Schlitz.
I don't know if any of you have watched Bravo's "Millionaire Matchmaker," but former Michigan State Center and former Clipper Paul Davis was on it recently. I have had the misfortune of tuning into this show, and I have learned two things;1) Bravo will film anything with semi-affluent and mildly retarded people, and call it entertainment. 2) Chyna really made a good decision when retiring from wrestling to go into the family business, and become a third generation matchmaker.
Do you think spring training means nothing? Try telling that to the kids of Manatee CC, a small Junior college team that beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4.
And for your viewing pleasure the red band trailer to Sacha Baron Cohen's next movie, Bruno. Enjoy.
The other day I got into a conversation with someone at my gym about twitter. I don't remember the guys name but he mentioned that when it came to twitter he only follows the fake Megan Fox. Which is pretty funny but I am pretty confident that my list has his beat by a long shot.
Fake Michael Bay: The best twitter accounts are the fake ones, they are only funny if done right and this one does exactly that. Highlights: I just destroyed a pack of Boy Scouts at Laser Tag. LASER BOOOOOM. and Shia is crying less today

Nick Nolte: This fake twitter account focusing on Nick Nolte has quickly substituted Film Drunk as my favorite site on the net. It is easily one of the funniest things I have read this year. Highlights:I got track marks older than my wife. That's what I call livin' the dream and I think it was Jesus who once said, let he who's never killed a horse for insurance money cast the first stone.
King Laserface/Philip Rivers: Yet another fake twitter account that makes me laugh at any given moment in the day. Highlights: If you can't reduce your child's nanny to tears in the span of one commercial break, you don't have what it takes to make it in the NFL. and Still no football this weekend. Norv is to blame.
Dave Matthews:Other than Shaq's this is the only other real celebrity twitter account that I follow. He is fairly funny but doesn't force it. He comments frequently on his current projects, family, and converses with other twitter users.
There you have it, my favorite celebrity twitter accounts. If you have any suggestions for other celebrity twitterers to follow, leave them in the comment section.
Club Trillion-I came across this site via With Leather. Club Trill is written by Ohio State basketballer Mark Titus and is easily the bestest thing I have read today; but to be honest I have spent the day studying for a test on plant assets, payroll accounting, bad debt expenses, and internal controls.. so yeah its a great blog. It also the best athlete blog out there.
Kissing Suzy Kolber- Eli Manning has misplaced his Plax doll, whines, cries, and then settles for his Domenik doll.
Fan House- Drama in the Big D; So T.O. had a totally awesome celebrity b-day bash/fundraiser, and guess who didn't even show up? Jason Witten and Tony Romo. They said they were recovering from their injuries. I call bull. ZOMG! They are totally going to drop from his top 8.
Funny or Die- If you go there you can watch the first episode of the second season for Flight of the Conchords. FYI, the episode won't be on HBO until January 18th. Your Welcome.
It was quite a busy weekend for sports, especially when you consider barely any of it included Plaxico Burress. So lets wrap up the weekend via some links.
Florida beat Bama for the SEC Championship and the chance to play Big 12 champ Oklahoma in the BCS title game. Coincidentally an elderly Gator fan who was watching the game from home and cheering "Go Gators" is terrorized by a man with a gun who misunderstood the cheers for racial epithets.
Virginia Tech rolls over Boston College to win the ACC Championship, earning themselves a spot in the Orange Bowl to play Big East champ Cincinnati. The Tech players were so excited one of them actually punched Head Coach Frank Beamer in the face.
The Boston Celtics continued their winning ways, all the while Glen Davis proves his nickname is not totally unrelated to his demeanor.
After the Minnesota Vikings barely pulled out a win against the hapless Lions Fox followed it up by showing the nation Visanthe Shiancoe's wang.
Last but not least, Duke lost to Michigan. This was Michigan's second victory against a top ranked opponent. The two huge wins have earned the team notoriety for being a giant killer. For myself I think its great to see something good finally happening for the fans of Michigan. Plus I think we can all agree that when Duke loses we all win.
Would you like to see two drunk Rangers fans get owned by security at a Devils game? What if I told you there was three different angles? No David Puddy is not involved.
Do you think its hypocritical that the NBA took such a strong stand against Tim Donaghy but advertises for casinos? Well if so, you now have one thing in common with Phil Jackson.
After getting cut by the Dolphins in September, safety Courtney Bryan tried out with five different teams without managing to land a spot on anyone’s roster or practice squad. So he took a job at Arby’s until the Dolphins recently re-signed him to play special teams.
ZOMG! My prayers have been answered. Now I can finally run outside without my feet having to actually touch the ground.
We live in such a wondrous time. Be thankful kiddos.
NFL cannot continue to ignore one of its biggest markets and Los Angeles needs a professional football team, but who would be willing to let their team leave? hmmm?!?
What do you have in common with freshman football players from Harvard-Westlake? You both think their assistant coach Ashton Kutcher is the duke of douchebaggery

John Daly speaks about his bizarre overnight jail stay from last weekend, after he was allegedly picked up drunk at a North Carolina Hooters restaurant. Happy Birthday Teach. Teach, like the rest of us, loves a good steeplchase collision. The following is probably one of the more gruesome videos that I have come across.
I called Berndon today and I didn't get much of a response. I am guessing his unrepsonsiveness is due to the fact that he wasn't the first to get this jersey . Maybe next time bro..
I am not sure what Smitty thinks of the new rally cry for the Phillies, but his fellow Philadelphians definitely aren't feeling it..
Stan Yuengling and Teach are bigger followers of hip hop music than I. Earlier today when I came across this years installment of the "top 10 most hated hip-hop figures," I wondered what they would think of the list. Thank Jeebus Nelly didn't make the list, because if so Stan and Smitty would be likely to go on a murderous rampage. Either that or write an angry email displaying why they disagree.
Awful Announcing: Obama campaign ad to delay start of game six of the World Series, oh and the ad spot is 30 minutes long.
Deadspin:Brent Musburger offers some troubling news about Joe Paterno, that Paterno admitted he's afraid he'll keel over once he retires.
Kissing Suzy Kolber: Emmit Smith analyzes the two Presidential candidates before the debate. Nevermind that the debate was last night, its the funniest thing I have read in at least the last month.
Washington Redskins sign former NFL MVP Shaun Alexander. Washington’s need for a back was created when LadellBetts suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s loss to St. Louis. It is a minimum deal and is good for the remainder of the season.
Dallas Cowboys lose Pacmanindefinitely but acquire Roy Williams from the Detroit Lions. Pacman's suspension will be for at least four games, but the addition of Roy Williams will make the mounting losses of players much easier to deal with.
Totally unrelated to sports but still awesome. A couple in Florida declare themselves as a "sovereign nation", here's an excerpt of the article:
....in February the Brinkles tried to buy a $700,000 house in Alaqua, a prestigious gated community in Seminole County, from Hunter Paschall, a Longwood property investor.Instead of money, however, they presented him with a homemade money order.Although the deal fell apart, the Brinkles recorded the sale had been done, county land records show.According to Donna Brinkle, that money order was perfectly valid. As head of her own sovereign country, she has the power to create her own monetary system, and she did...

So we have had to wait a grueling 5 days or so to see the start of the NLCS. I figured that this would be a great time to check in on what the local papers are saying about the series.

Allan Houston signs with the Knicks, and will attempt another comeback with his former team. Don't dust off your old 20 jersey just yet, he plans on wearing 14 in honor of his father Wade Houston.
Awful Announcing provided video of a rather strange touchdown celebration. Of course the odd TD celebration comes via our neighbors to the north and the CFL.
How does the announcer not know what duck, duck, goose is?
